Sandustry Pipes Guide
Learn how pipes work in Sandustry, from moving sand and granular materials between machines to keeping production flowing in the falling-sand automation game.

Sandustry is in Early Access; pipe mechanics and balance are patch-sensitive and may differ from guides written for older builds.
How Pipes Work in Sandustry
In Sandustry, pipes move granular and fluid-like materials such as sand between machines, replacing manual transport as your factory grows. Because the game uses a physics-based falling-sand simulation, material inside pipes behaves like flowing sand rather than simple inventory items: it pours, settles, and responds to how you lay out your network.
Pipes vs. Conveyors
Pipes handle bulk granular flows, while conveyors move discrete produced items. If a machine spits out solid parts, route them with conveyors; if it emits sand, powder, or similar bulk material, pipes are usually the right connection. See our conveyor guide for the item side of logistics.
Practical Pipe Tips
When starting out, connect pipes directly between a producer and consumer and watch whether material actually arrives before extending the line. Gravity and spacing matter in a particle simulation, so short, simple runs are easier to troubleshoot than long networks. Leave room to re-route, because adding machines almost always forces you to rework your earliest piping.
Early Access Status
Sandustry is in Early Access, and transport mechanics can change between patches. Specific pipe behaviors, flow rules, and unlock details should be verified against the current build; our updates page tracks notable changes.
